my first photo contest | shoot & share 2019 | Toronto real life family photographer
I’ve never entered any of my images in a competition, so when I saw the info about the 2019 edition of the (apparently REALLY well-known) Shoot & Share Contest, I decided to just go for it. Kinda glad I did :) This was tough beans, this contest: more than 1.1 million (MILLION) photos were submitted in 25 categories and visitors to the contest site voted in 12 rounds throughout February and March.
81 million votes and 100,000 people
I had pretty low expectations knowing that last year’s contest was equally as insane. And so, I was actually floored when the results came through: one of my photos was a Finalist (meaning it made it to the final round); two of my photos were in the top 10% of their category; four were in the top 20%; and eight were in the top 30%.
Proof (perhaps?) that some people out there appreciate that real life vibe. That there is a small place for documentary real life photography in the vast sea of wedding and posed work. Proof also that we should all try things that scare us because sometimes we surprise ourselves.
